Tom Flood and Candy Reeves

The proposal!

Our Story

Tom and I first met waaaaay back in 1995. We had both recently begun working at Fidelity Investments in Dallas. Despite my hatred for the NY Giants and his hatred for the Dallas Cowboys, we instantly formed a bond of friendship over our mutual love for classic Mustangs, Star Wars, and professional football. We stayed friends but lost touch after I moved to Denver in 1999. On a ski trip to Colorado in 2000, Tom stopped in to visit the local Fidelity branch office. Needless to say, I was shocked to see him standing in front of me as much as he was shocked to see me at the front desk! We kept in touch this time through e-mail and I helped Tom get a job at the local Fidelity office in Irving. In 2007, Tom knew I was homesick for Dallas and called to let me know about a new job offer he had received. I applied for it and got it! The good news was that we were both finally in the right place at the right time and were able to explore our friendship.

The proposal could not have been more perfect. Anyone who knows me also knows that my favorite place to be in the world is at an SMU football game. Combine that with my lifelong ambition of getting my face on the jumbo-tron and you have "the perfect proposal". With the help of my sorority sisters, Tom managed to secure front row seats to the Homecoming game, sneak in the ring, and inform every friend/family member within the tri-state area (and California!). Near the conclusion of half-time, the stadium annoucer directed my (along with 20,000 other fans) attention to the scoreboard where I saw a photo of Tom on bended knee with the words "Candy, Will you Marry Me?, Tom" in larger than life letters! I'm pretty sure I mumbled a "yes" of some sort and the rest, as they say, is history.

If you are saying to yourself "I wish I could have been there", you can! You can view a video clip of our engagement by visiting www.youtube.com and entering "Tom Candy SMU" into the search box. Enjoy!!
